Reader's Workshop
During our Reading Workshop, we work on literacy skills in many different ways. We spend time as a whole group, as well as work in small groups and as individuals. As a whole group, we learn strategies that help us become better readers. During center time (The Daily 5), we have the opportunity to practice using these strategies.
The Daily 5
The Daily 5 consists of five different literacy activities for students while guided reading groups are in progress. The five choices are Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, and Work Work.

- Listen to Reading- using headphones, students listen to prerecorded stories.
- Work on Writing-students practice various types of writing (stories, letters, cards, lists).
- Word Work-students use this time to practice letters and sight words.
Writer's Workshop
In our classroom we will be using a Writer's Workshop approach when teaching writing. During this time, students have the opportunity to choose their own topics and spend time writing. The teacher's role is as a writing coach to guide the students as they explore their writing. Time is spent as a class studying mentor texts (published books) to model and inspire our writing.
